Meet Wisal
"My goal is to get more knowledge and training from this program, so I can help more immigrants and people who join Kirkwood as students, and help them succeed in their education and get better jobs and improve their quality of life."

Wisal Hussein is a RISE AmeriCorps member serving with Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Wisal joined the program RISE because she was doing similar work for a Sudanese Community Services organization as a volunteer. She hopes to learn more about the resources available for refugee and immigrant students in order to bridge the service gap.
Wisal is very social and loves to be surrounded by people, work with, and help them. She is a longtime volunteer in serving Sudanese community, hosting social and educational events, and working on a board of directors for more than two terms. Originally from Sudan, Wisal came to the US in 2001. She is a native Arabic language speaker and is also fluent in English. In her free time, Wisal enjoys hobbies likes sewing, cooking, decoration, and photography. |
