Meet Masoka

Masoka Mkombozi is a RISE AmeriCorps member with Community Youth Concepts in Des Moines. She is currently in her third service term with the program.  

Masoka was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and lived in a refugee camp for about 11 years. In 2008 Masoka resettled in Atlanta, Georgia with her family. After a few years they moved to Iowa. 

In 2018 Masoka graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with an Accounting Specialist degree. After completing her education, Masoka was an intern at Goodwill in the finance department, and also worked with EMBARC as a Community Navigator.

Since then Masoka has been serving as a RISE member, which has given her opportunities to discover what she wants to pursue for a career. Her plan for the future is to be able to go back to school and pursue a degree in Human Services since she loves working with people.
