Karla Torres-Rodriguez is a RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps member at the Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids. Karla and her family immigrated to the United States from Mexico when she was six years old, resettling in Iowa.
Karla graduated from Mount Mercy University with a degree in Healthcare Navigation. She became involved in working with the refugee and immigrant community during her internship at CMC.
In the future, Karla hopes to help new Iowans develop the skills they need to thrive. Her focus will be educating refugee community members on the healthcare system and their medical conditions.
Karla is fluent in both English and Spanish. In her free time Karla loves reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
