Jeanette Nimpagaritse is a Burundian-American and former refugee. She graduated from Massaponax High School in Virginia in 2018 and moved to Des Moines the following year.
Jeanette’s dream is to become a lawyer, which led her to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. She will be attending DMACC this fall, where she will take on a Literature minor in addition to her law studies.
“I joined the RefugeeRISE program because when I lived in Virginia I was part of an organization called “Unity!” We assisted new students in finding their way through school. I also worked to inspire kids to stay in school and helped them apply for scholarships. I believe that now I can help people find the right jobs since I helped kids find the right school to fit them.”
Jeanette is a RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps member at IowaWORKS, where she's giving back to the community as a workforce navigator.
