Meet Halima
Halima Ali is a RISE AmeriCorps member with Oakridge Neighborhood Services in Des Moines.
Halima grew up in Egypt and immigrated to the United States with their family in 2012. After earning an associate's degree and phlebotomy certificate from DMACC, Halima went on to major in Liberal Studies at the University of Northern Iowa. They are currently preparing to take the phlebotomy certification exam to become a certified phlebotomy technician.
Upon graduating from UNI, Halima wants to continue their education and pursue a Master's degree in Public Health. Halima has been working with the refugee and immigrant community as a volunteer interpreter for 6 years. They also have worked as an ELL assistant with DMACC.
Regarding their AmeriCorps service, Halima says, "I have joined RISE AmeriCorps because I want to continue to help the refugee and immigrant community and gain new skills and experiences."
