Meet Gisselle Herrera

Gisselle Herrera is a RISE AmeriCorps Member serving with Al Éxito in Des Moines.

Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, Gisselle graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. While at UNI, she worked in the Office of Admissions. Gisselle was heavily involved with and served in leadership positions in student organizations, which helped her to grow personally and professionally. 

As the daughter of immigrants, Gisselle is especially interested in serving immigrants and refugees.

“I have seen first hand what my parents had to go through but also what my siblings and I had to navigate on our own. I am very passionate about providing support for historically excluded communities and helping them navigate different systems.”
