Flora Kafunda is a RISE AmeriCorps member with the Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids.
Flora is a first generation incoming student at Iowa State majoring in Biosystems Engineering. She wants to work in the future in Community Development and urban planning.
As a member of RISE, she is passionate about helping her community and others that come through CMC settle in the United States as her family was greatly assisted by Americorps members in 2017 when they settled here. Flora is a strong advocate for community justice, equity and women rights, freedom and independence. It is that passion to help others that drives her to work in order to not only give back but help her community strive and learn together.
Outside of school and community service, Flora enjoys reading, hiking, poetry, cooking and watching black and white movies.
