Eleanor Kemdirim was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States with her family in 2007, when they resettled in Des Moines, Iowa.
Eleanor graduated from East High School and is currently attending the University of Iowa. She is studying Global Health with plans on graduating in the spring of 2020.
Being an immigrant herself, Eleanor understands some of the difficulties immigrant families face when they migrate to a new country. She joined AmeriCorps to become more involved in her community and to assist families as they make their transition in Iowa City.
Eleanor is serving her RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps term with IC Compassion, a community outreach organization that provides social and emotional health services to refugees.
