EMBARC (Waterloo)
Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (EMBARC, Waterloo) founded the RISE AmeriCorps Program in 2015. As Iowa’s first refugee-led service provider, EMBARC is dedicated to advocating for and supporting ethnic minority groups from Burma who resettled in Iowa. EMBARC also offers services for other refugees from across the globe. The Waterloo location is a secondary branch that continues advocacy efforts and works directly with refugees in the Waterloo region.
RISE AmeriCorps Members at EMBARC’s Waterloo location assist with the IT Navigator program, which teaches immigrants and refugees technology skills so they can disseminate knowledge throughout their community. RISE members also support other EMBARC services to improve the lives of refugees.
